One year ago i started a big adventure. I have always owned rescue dogs in the past, and whilst they were wonderful i had hankered over a pure bred, purpose selected for the doggy sports that i get enjoyment out of.
Like many others, i saw a feature on Burke’s Backyard many moons ago (i’m talking years!) on the Italian Breed Lagotto Romangolo.
There were many features and characteristics i wanted in my next pooch, i wanted a loyal friend, but one that was confident and not prone to separation anxiety like Thomas i past kelpie/staffy. The shopping list was long, and the choice was procrastinated over for a very long time.
I wanted a pooch that would be active and enjoy participating in doggy sports, obedience, agility and endurance to name a few. They needed to be responsive, looking to please, enjoy an outside lifestyle as do i.
After having too short coated dogs that shed dog hair “EVERYWHERE” i wanted a dog that wouldn’t shed hair all over the place. I would have to carry a clean towel in the car, not for the dogs, but to cover the front seat if i had a human passenger, as their hair was in every crevice of my car and any passenger would get out with their very own fur coat!
I wanted a smart dog that would be keen to learn. They needed to be affectionate, cause i do like an occasional cuddle and i wanted a breed that was reasonably long-lived.
So i started the big adventure, and like a crazy lady, i got two! My first pup was a male, He was initially orange, but became mainly cream with a touch of orange, and he definitely announced his arrival. He was loud and proud, he quite openly has an opinion, on most things! He declared his love of all things water, as soon as he got out of the car, and waddled over to the water bowl and walked through it. Active, courageous, bold and smart definitely defined Mack.
Then three weeks later, Maddy arrived, a chocolate top, brown and white, the absolute opposite to Mack in personality. Quiet, cuddly a real smoocher and gentle. A true devil in disguise. Maddy AKA Imelda the shoe lover.
And so the adventures began…..
