Fencing

Today I had the afternoon at home, and made the most of the beautiful weather. I have been fighting for years to grow trees and the livestock both domestic and wild have beaten me on the whole, hundreds of trees I’ve planted and very few made it. Im going hard core – and putting an actual paddock fence in, im determined to beat the furry buggers! I have an area that I had tried planting some leatherwood trees for my bees – but no massacred. Im determined to have success with these trees – so permanent fencing it is. Im also planning this area to have some redwoods planted, and some manna gums on the off chance a stray koala strolls past. There are a couple of slips in the fenced area, so I will be able to put some hives amongst the trees also. Hard going by hand!, digging and crow bar, thank god we had a heap of rain last week, at least the crow bar docent bounce so much now!

Run foxy run

Hmm I may well have just discovered how to keep Foxy Loxy away from my feathered friends… it would appear that the terrible two do in fact have good noses and gained great enjoyment in putting Foxy Loxy up.  One minute they are yabbering away down along bottom fence, and next thing I realise is that the barking was quite faint.  Looking up and out I see the two of the travelling at light speed across the lower paddock toward the big pile if rocks down near the river.. fortunately thy lost Foxy Loxy,  and responded to me doing my version of a recall signal which some what resembles a star jump, and by golly, maddy spun around high tailed it for home, Mack continued to scent Foxy Loxy for a couple of minute, but he too headed for home promptly.  Thank goodness, I did have visions of having to hook him out of the river down the road somewhere if he’d got it into his head to take a swim.

Sooo maybe the chickens will be safe from now on, at least from Foxy Loxy just gotta teach the two hoodlums not to chase the birds now!

Honey they shrunk the kids!

Today was long over due considering recent temperatures.  We had  an excursion off the mountain to the groomers.  The lucky Brady gets three hours of quality time in a small room.  I have previously suggested ear muffs, but she just smiles…I guess her pay back is she gets to cut their hair weather they like the do or not!

I dropped off two overgrown sheep and picked up two skun rabbits….. not sure about the trade.

From a maintenance point of view much much easier.

Rubicon Harvest – Intro

One year ago i started a big adventure.  I have always owned rescue dogs in the past, and whilst they were wonderful i had hankered over a pure bred, purpose selected for the doggy sports that i get enjoyment out of.

Like many others, i saw a feature on Burke’s Backyard many moons ago (i’m talking years!) on the Italian Breed Lagotto Romangolo.

There were many features and characteristics i wanted in my next pooch, i wanted a loyal friend, but one that was confident and not prone to separation anxiety like Thomas i past kelpie/staffy.  The shopping list was long, and the choice was procrastinated over for a very long time.

I wanted a pooch that would be active and enjoy participating in doggy sports, obedience, agility and endurance to name a few.  They needed to be responsive, looking to please, enjoy an outside lifestyle as do i.

After having too short coated dogs that shed dog hair “EVERYWHERE” i wanted a dog that wouldn’t shed hair all over the place.  I would have to carry a clean towel in the car, not for the dogs, but to cover the front seat if i had a human passenger, as their hair was in every crevice of my car and any passenger would get out with their very own fur coat!

I wanted a smart dog that would be keen to learn.  They needed to be affectionate, cause i do like an occasional cuddle and i wanted a breed that was reasonably long-lived.

So i started the big adventure, and like a crazy lady, i got two!  My first pup was a male, He was initially orange, but became mainly cream with a touch of orange, and he definitely announced his arrival.  He was loud and proud, he quite openly has an opinion, on most things!  He declared his love of all things water, as soon as he got out of the car, and waddled over to the water bowl and walked through it.  Active, courageous, bold and smart definitely defined Mack.

Then three weeks later, Maddy arrived, a chocolate top, brown and white, the absolute opposite to Mack in personality.  Quiet, cuddly a real smoocher and gentle. A true devil in disguise.  Maddy AKA Imelda the shoe lover.

And so the adventures began…..
